$1,150,000 MALPRACTICE AWARD
On May 23, 2003, Judge William Maddux approved a $1,150,000 settlement on behalf of
the Estate of Alexandra Salerno against Loyola University Medical Center. Loyola
allegedly failed to properly maintain Alexandra’s airway during her transport from the
operating room to the neonatal intensive care unit following open heart surgery. As a
result, Alexandra was involuntarily extubated and developed resulting heart
complications which ultimately caused her death on November 6, 1998 . Alexandra was 9
months old at the time of her death and is survived by her parents and four siblings.
