Appeals Exhausted – $34 Million Dollar Judgment Paid

In February, 2012, a jury awarded Nancy Hoffman $27.67 million dollars in damages for the injuries she and her daughter sustained during a trucking crash in Cedar County, Iowa on June 21, 2002.

The Hoffmans were represented by Robert J. Napleton and Daniel T. Madigan.

The judgment was against Joseph T. Ryerson & Sons, Inc. which had insurance coverage well in excess of the verdict. On September 25, 2014, the Illinois Supreme Court denied leave to appeal an appellate decision affirming the judgment amount.

With interest and costs assessed against Ryerson (in addition to settlements previously reached with other defendants), the total amount received by the plaintiffs was Thirty Four (34) Million Dollars, a firm record.
